Dancing with Disaster is a high energy cover band with roots in the School of Rock. We all met as part of the Adult Band Program at School of Rock.  Playing with the School of Rock Adult Band program was an excellent exposure for some of us who had never played with other people before. After playing together for close to a year as part of that program, the five of us decided to start our own band.

Since branching out on our own we’ve had many gigs around town in Winnipeg and are always looking to get more under our belts as we find our niche in the Winnipeg music scene. We’ve also maintained a close relationship with the School of Rock team as we still have some friends who are playing with the adult band there. Not to mention the relationship we built with many of the instructors while we were there.

As a group we get along great and our positive energy always comes across in our performances. Even if things aren’t going as planned you’ll never see it in our faces. We know how lucky we are to be doing something we love together.

Dancing with Disaster is:

Marina Lawrence is our drummer. The keeper of the back beat and our steady calming force. She keeps us on track when we start to get too far off track (which almost never happens.)

Michael Dickinson is our primary front man taking on most of our singing duties and playing guitar. He was the driving force behind getting this band started. He wanted another outlet where he could get out from behind the drum kit. He plays drums in another Winnipeg band called The Fun Ones.

Ryan Weans is our lead guitar player but he also takes on keyboards, bass and sings a few songs in our set. A real Swiss Army Knife who excels at whatever parts he takes on.

Andrew Barney is the other half of our rhythm section. Andrew plays bass and also contributes some amazing energy as the lead vocals on some songs and backing vocals on others.

Travis Kondratuk got a fairly late start at playing live music, so he has the least amount of stage experience. But what he lacks in musical experience he makes up with in beard. Travis tries his hand at playing guitar, and contributes with some lead and backing vocals.
